FAQ

Murray River Salt ™ 'Salt Flakes' are produced using the pristine mineralised brines from the ancient saline aquifers of the Murray Darling Basin. The stunning pale pink hue of the salt flakes is a result of the mineralised brines used to make the salt products.
Murray River Salt ™ ‘Salt Flakes' come from the Murray Darling Basin region of North West Victoria. The products are produced using the pristine mineralised brines from the ancient unground saline aquifers. Mineralised brine is pumped up into shallow lake beds, the sun then does its work over many months leaving a layer of salt to be harvested.
No, Murray River Salt is made by utilising the mineralised brines which have been in an underground aquifer for thousands of years in the Murray Darling Basin. The brine has not been exposed until it is pumped into our crystallising system. Murray River Salt works with the Murray Darling Basin Authority to prevent 150-200 tonnes of salt per day from entering the Murray River which is a precious life source for many food producers and native flora & fauna in Victoria, New South Wales & South East Australia. Our family is from Mildura, which is widely known as the Murray River Region, hence the name ‘Murray River Salt’.

Sodium is an essential part of our daily health - without salt, quite simply, we would die, and as the body constantly loses salt through bodily functions, it must be replaced. Salt also plays an important role in controlling our heart rate and curbing release of stress hormones. Dietary guidelines recommend a daily intake of up to 2,300 milligrams a day - or 1,500 milligrams if you're age 51 or older (www.mayoclinic.org). However, too much salt is bad for you and it is hidden in processed foods. Try to avoid processed foods and eat healthy, whole foods and add your own salt as you cook or to your finished dish.
